Education and Children

Today's kids and schools need your help more than ever. Invest in the future by donating some time to read a story, mentor a child, play a game, coach a team, or help out one of the many organizations devoted to America's youth.

Create The Good is proud to join "I participate" to call on Americans to make more good things happen, by encouraging everyone to give anything from 5 minutes to 5 hours make our nation a better place.

With a wealth of skills, experience and energy, AARP's members of all ages, and their families and friends, are eager to create more good in the world. As our nation faces growing challenges, AARP has launched Create The Good to help anyone create better communities. Create The Good is creating and giving rise to a whole new good movement.

Anyone can visit to find or post ways to help their neighbors and communities. You can find an opportunity that fits with your time and interests. Through Create The Good—both online and on-the-ground—you can make new connections, and find new tools and ideas to help spread the good.

Volunteer Organizations

    • AmeriCorps

Put your ideals into action full-time or part-time while learning new skills, making new connections, and earning money to pay for college or pay back student loans. Many AmeriCorps members serve in schools or with youth in afterschool programs.

    • Citizen Schools

Teach what you know and love to middle school students. Once a week for ten weeks, you’ll lead a team of apprentices in a project of your choice, building their skills and inspiring a love of learning.

    • City Year

Young adults may give a year of full-time service as a tutor, mentor or role model helping students and earn an AmeriCorps education award. Volunteers of all ages may join together for a single day of transformative physical service that results in a renovated school or revitalized playground.

    • Playworks

AmeriCorps and other volunteers are helping Playworks run recess and our after school programs, organize league activities and bring safe, inclusive and healthy play to kids around the country.

    • Hands On Schools

At local HandsOn Action Centers, volunteers of all ages can find meaningful service opportunities that align with your passions and interests, including the chance to get “HandsOn” in schools and in other ways that benefit young people.

    • The LEAGUE

Educate, engage and empower young people (grades K-12) in volunteering and service by helping to organize service projects for students.

    • Dizzy Feet Foundation

Dizzy Feet Foundation was founded in 2009 by Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman, Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actress Katie Holmes to support, improve and increase access to dance education in the United States.
