This Friday, 11/11/11, is a special Verterans Day. What better way to show your support and to honor our veterans than to give back to them? There are many service opportuinites, many right in your community, that you can take part in. It's easy to search on iParticipate for local volunteer opportunites focused on veterans and their families.

In addition, this Veterans Day, the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), creator of the iParticipate program, is teaming up with the Emmy Award-winning reality program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EMHE), to produce a one-hour special: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition “Rise and Honor” A Veterans Day Special.

Airing on Veterans Day at 8/7c on ABC, EMHE host Ty Pennington will revisit some of the most heartwarming military stories featured over the years. Additionally, celebrities will highlight issues veterans face after serving in the military, as well as the strengths and skills returning veterans bring to the work force and their communities. The program will culminate in a live musical performance by Jewel, who is also co-hosting the special, to an audience comprised of active-duty service members and veterans.

Through this extraordinary one-hour special, EIF will launch Rise and Honor (www.riseandhonor.org), a program that raises critical funds to support important reintegration services for veterans and their loved ones. The program will benefit veteran service organizations including: Fisher House Foundation, Hire Heroes USA, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, United Service Organizations (USO), Volunteers of America, and Welcome Back Veterans. These organizations provide vital services and support to our nation's veterans and their families including housing, job placement, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment.

1% of Americans serve in uniform today and bear the heaviest burden of defending our Nation. Let us, the 99%, rise and honor our veterans, service members and military families who sacrifice so much.

Reach out and find an volunteer opportunity and give back to those that have given all of us so much.
